TuneCat Mobile UI

CLIENT: TuneCat

TuneCat is an early-stage startup founded by musicians to improve their exposure and empower independent artists to reach a wider audience. I was approached by the founder while they were in the i.Lab incubator at UVA’s Darden School of business to help craft an initial proof-of-concept and overall design strategy.

From our initial discussions, we established business objectives and long-term strategic goals, as well as paring down initial requirements into a realistic MVP that could be developed within the desired timeline. Ultimately, we came to the agreement that the highest priority at this stage was a mobile app for the promotion of local shows. The majority of competitors in the local event space were focused on national and larger regional touring acts. This strategy would address a key need for local musicians and allow TuneCat to establish the critical mass of users necessary to secure sponsorships and additional funding.

Using a combination of competitor analysis and user interviews, we established key personas and verified initial assumptions around the set of features needed to meet musicians' needs. After completing an initial concept for the UI, we validated with users and continuously refined based on feedback.
