FireStat

FEMA + The National Day of Civic Hacking

About this project:

The National Day of Civic Hacking was a nationwide event in which 11,000 developers and entrepreneurs came together, and volunteered their time to develop solutions to support various government agencies. We worked on a project with FEMA to provide an interface for data visualization of fires throughout the US. Our goal was to create a tool that could be used to simplify navigation and break down the fire data to draw meaningful conclusions.

Our web app was built on a PHP/MySQL backend using the Twitter Bootstrap framework on the front end, as well as commercial mapping and graphing packages. This project was one of 20 recognized by the White House at the Champions of Change event. You can view the FireStat progress here.
